👉 Summary of The Artist :
“The Artist” is an interesting story. It has been written by ‘Shiga Naoya’. He was a great Japanese writer.
Seibei is a school-going boy, who likes to collect gourds and takes interest in doing so. Seibei has great affection (स्नेह) for gourds. In his leisure (आराम) time, he looks for good (वह अच्छा ढूंढता है) and well-shaped gourds. He does not like to play with other boys. One day he finds a beautiful gourd. He takes his gourd to his school. By chance he is caught (पकड़े गए) by the teacher. When his teacher sees the gourd of Seibei, he chides him. He goes to Seibei’s house and warns his mother that such type of work should not be repeated by Seibei at school. When his father comes to know, he beats his son much and smashes (फोड़) all the gourds. The teacher gives the gourd to the old porter of the school. After a few days, the porter sells that gourd for fifty yen. After that, the curio-dealer sells the same gourd for six hundred yen. On the other hand (दूसरी ओर) Seibei takes interest in painting but his father does not like it. It seems(प्रतीत) that an artist can change his tools but not his mind, in this way, we can say that this story shows a talent boy but his father discourages (हतोत्साहित) him. It has been nobly planned. The words and sentences of this story are easy. Anybody can understand this story very easily.

“The Artist” has been written by Shiga Naoya he was a Japanese writer. In this story he tried to unfurl before us (हमारे सामने प्रस्तुत) how the people of today damage the talent of their son or daughter. In this story there is a boy whose name is Seibei and he was of 12 years old even he was reading in primary school only. Actually this boy was interested in gourds.
After his school, instead (बजाय) of playing with other children he used to go to the market in search of gourds. In the evening he used to sit cross legged (आलथी-पालथी मारे बैठना) in the corner to living room (बैठक कक्ष) and work with the new gourds. He used to bore first a neat hole in top of the gourd and extracted the seeds after that he filled up with the liquid of tea leaves to rid of the bad smell. (वह पहले लौकी के ऊपर एक साफ सुथरा छेद करके उसके बीज निकालता था, उसके बाद उसमें से दुर्गंध से छुटकारा पाने के लिए चाय की पत्तियों का द्रव्य भर देता था) In the next morning he wound the skin of the gourds thoroughly damp because of the night treatment.
(रात के इलाज के कारण उसने लौकी की त्वचा को अच्छी तरह से गीला कर दिया) He used to polish the gourds carefully and hang in the sun light to dry. This was his daily work. One day he saw a 5 inch gourd which an old lady was selling. He went to the lady and bought that 5 inch gourd in ten yen. He did same thing with gourd also because of this gourd he was very happy. One day he took that 5 inch gourd along to the school and started polishing it under his desk in class time, one of the teacher saw him polishing in class time. The teacher became very angry and told him, you are an idiot
and told there is no future for a boy like you. The teacher not only seized(जब्त) his gourd but also he went to Seibei home to complain when father knew about this he became very angry and scolded Seibei very badly and told not do this again in the future. Next morning the teacher handed over that gourd to the porter as to clean the room. Porter took it to the home. One day porter was in need of money so he took that gourd to the curio dealer and sold him for 50 yen. Later curio dealer sold to wealthy man for 600 yen.
