This drama has been written by ‘Anton Chekhov’. He was the greatest dramatist and short story writer of Russia.
A marriage proposal is a comedy. The dramatist reveals (पता चलता है) the pitiable condition of a father.(पिता की दयनीय स्थिति) In this drama, Choobookov (Natalia’father) is a land owner. He has a daughter. Her name is Natalia Stepanova. She is twenty five years old. His neighbour is I.V. Lomov. Once Lomov goes to Choobookov’s house to give the proposal of marriage. He meets Choobookov and tells his proposal to him. Them Natalia’s father becomes very happy. When Lomov talks to Natalia, he begins to quarrel with her over the Ox Meadows and the dogs. (वह ऑक्स मीडोज और कुत्तों को लेकर उससे झगड़ा करने लगती है). At last Choobookov asks him to hurry up and get married. (जल्दी करो और शादी करो) Natalya is also willing (इच्छुक) to marry him. Then both marry and become happy. After that, Choobookov becomes very happy.
In this way, we can say that the drama is full of wits(दिमागी) and humours.
