Class 12th English Chapter 8 Fire Hymn
★ Summary of Fire Hymn:
“Fire Hymn” has been composed by ‘Keki N. Daruwala’. He is a famous poet.
He depicts (दर्शाया) the picture of the rural life. In this poem, the poet describes a burning ghat. At the same time, he shows the duty of fire (आग का कर्तव्य) When he was child, he was walking with his father along (साथ में) the bank of the river. At that time (उस समय), he saw the red-hot embers (चिंगारी) still glowing. That time his father told him about the half-burnt fingers (आधी जली हुई उँगलियाँ) of a dead body. The poet became very sad to see the scene because he was a Parsi and fire is his god (अग्नि उसका देवता है). He was a worshiper of the fire. He said that he would save the fire from the sin (पाप) of forgetting its function. After twenty years he violated (उल्लंघन) the rule of his religion then the fire forgave him.
Hence, this is an important poem of Daruwala. The poem provides clear evidence (सबूत) of his craftsmanship (दस्तकारी).
