‘An Epitaph’ has been written by ‘Walter De La Mare’. He wrote poems, novels of fantasy (मन की कल्पना पर उपन्यास) and critical essays (आलोचनात्मक निबंध).
In this poem, the poet shows the mortality(मृत्यु-संख्या) of the world through a beautiful lady. There was a beautiful lady in the west. The poet knew (जानता था) her very well. The poet thought that she was the most beautiful lady in the West Country. He further says that in this world the beauty of everything is not permanent(स्थाई). One day the lady died then the poet began to think that who would remember after his death.
Hence we can say that it is an important poem. This poem depicts (दर्शाया गया है) poet’s vision (नजरिया) very well. The words and sentences of this poem are lucid (स्पष्ट) and impressive (प्रभावशाली).

An Epitaph is written by Walter De La Mare. Epitaph is tomb (समाधि) of a dead body (मृत शरीर). Where lies a beautiful lady. Actually poet loved very much to that lady. She was very beautiful. One day that lady died and buried (दफन) finally in the grave. So in this poem poet is expressing his sad feeling (भावना) for a lady who is lying in a grave. The poet goes to the tomb(समाधि)which was made in the memory of that lady (उस महिला की याद). He weeps there bitterly (फूट फूट कर) and thinks who will remember her after his death. The poet is in the opinion that man is mortal and soul (आत्मा) is immortal (अमर). Poet says body falls down into pieces but soul changes the other new body to live. The poet says whoever (जो कोई भी) comes on the earth must die. But their fame (प्रतिष्ठा) remains permanently in this universe (ब्रम्हांड).
