➡️ Summary of the story “How Free Is The Press”

How free is the press is a unique piece (अनोखा टुकड़ा) of essay. It has been written by Dorothy Leigh Sayers . He is regarded as a great writer of his time.

In this piece of essay, the writer describes about the function of the press. Long long ago(काफी समय पहले), all the people were very simple and uncivilized. They were totally unknown about themselves(खुद). Gradually science developed and invented the press.(धीरे-धीरे विज्ञान ने प्रेस का विकास और आविष्कार किया) Now-a-days it has become a wonderful gift of science. Press means to prepare up to date news daily(प्रेस का अर्थ है प्रतिदिन अप टू डेट समाचार तैयार करना). Life will be zero and dull(सुस्त) without press. It has changed our life and culture. Not only this but also changed our standard of living by sitting at the door.(इतना ही नहीं बल्कि दरवाजे पर बैठकर हमारे रहन-सहन के स्तर को भी बदल दिया) We can read the daily newspaper. Though the newspaper we read about farming, medicine, technology, incident(घटना), accident(दुर्घटना), trade, sports and current affairs. Newspaper spreads our knowledge. In England there is censorship on the press during the time of war. But in India there is low censorship in press.

*Censorship:–(सेंसरशिप भाषण, सार्वजनिक संचार, या अन्य जानकारी का दमन है)

Clearly, we can say that it is the only press that removes our blindness(अंधापन) and darkness (अंधेरापन) from life.

Or

‘How free is the press’ is an essay. It has been written by ‘Dorothy L. Sayers’.

At first we have know the meaning of ‘Freedom of Press’ to understand this essay. Freedom of press means free from censorship of the government. Actually today it is not completely free. The press is controlled by the advertisers(विज्ञापनदाता) and the owner of the press. No newspaper goes against them. Sometimes a press does not express the public opinion. The press should be completely free in normal times but there should be censorship during emergency and war period.

In this way, we can say that this essay express the state of the press beautifully.(यह निबंध प्रेस की स्थिति को खूबसूरती से व्यक्त करता है)
